events, lessons, contests, socials, legacy...

Scotland Boog Crew has been formed as a collective of bodyboarders based in Scotland to support the growth of the sport in this country.

Our aim is to create and contribute to events to promote performance, to help newcomers learn, to bring the community together and to share the stoke!

A brief history...

As far as we're aware bodyboarding in Scotland started back in the late 80s and early 90s with crews of teenage frothers, way before surf forecasts and flexible wetsuits. An era of day glow suits, marigold gloves and bad haircuts.

Reach out if you were booging in Scotland in that era!

If you're a bodyboarder on Shetland, the Orkney Islands, The Hebrides, North Coast or Moray Firth, West Coast - Campbletown or Minches......We'd love to hear your story.

In South East Scotland some crustaceans remain from the 80s/90s Palaeolithic era more barnacle encrusted than ever: Paul Jones, the "Frothstopherson" Christophersons bros,  Bongo, Davy from Dunbar and Craig "brain dead" Gravy (originally from SA) have been riding here since the 90s or earlier, inspired by Cornish based 360 bodyboarding mag and the window of stoke it brought.

In the late 90s and early 2000s the SE saw new faces come and go, with some still embracing the line up; legendary Paul "Flitty" Flitcroft "DK warrior", The Sheils Bros (now in Aus), French Christof, Nate Harkelwood (from California),  Rory "the boundless" Lancellos (from SA), Graeme, Gary Mac and Grubby, Josh "Bali based DJ" Davidson, Spence and some old converts now mostly seen darkside Sam, Damo, Jason B, Callum Bennets...

Further up the coast in St Andrews centred around the Uni in the early 90s there was a small sponge crew namely Ed Legge, Dougie Watson, Simon and Sam.

Meanwhile in Aberdeen in the early 2000s on the Grampian Coast a scene developed centred around the Uni, SE booger transplants like Damo Hewlett and "Finger Nial", Rups "the charger" Williams, paving the way and slightly later Paul McFazden (DK), Toby Leigh (from Devon), Leo (SA)

Back to the mid 2000s and in the SE the crew morphed adding some new frothers, a crew of local grommets promising great things came and went faster than the blink of an eye in the shape of Mikey Wimbledon, Max "the hook"Ferguson, Noah Davis, Malcolm "the occasional booger" Todd, Oisin "Osh" Strachan and some lid / stick combo heroes such as the legendary Phoebe Strachan (current Scottish Shortboard Champion 2025) - don't forget who introduced you to slab surfing ;-) We also have Quintin "the youth" riding both darkside and boog, a rare hope and beacon of boog light amongst the teenage wave riders..

Older stalwarts include Nathan "the rock", Ed "the ethereal", Aristee "zoolander" from Reunion, Boab"the story teller" Yule, Jony "the joker" Griff (Wales),  Paul "the ripper"Wright (SA), Co'path Jamie, and representing the ladies Hilary...we would love to see more girls in the water.

With the introduction of the wave pool in Edinburgh in 2025 the Scottish boog scene has hit a new point in its evolution and hopefully we can galvanise the love for the sport into a new generation of high level riders.

Some long time boogers from many parts of the planet now based in Scotland are bringing a new energy and stoke to the scene include Warren "wazza the proactive", Shane "the Barrelled" Nener, Heider Nascimento, Lisa Shaw, Keith "the shredder"

Out representing the boog on the Isle of Lewis is Richard "the man of many waves" Mccannan.

Of course there have been many overseas visitors to the shores from Aussie pros to long time van life cruisers like the Ireland bros and lots of UK based Bodyboarding crews have challenged Scotlands North Shore including big crews from Cornwall, Devon and NE England such as Smudge.

If you are sliding around on a bodyboard somewhere on these rugged and remote coastlines we would love to hear from you and we'll add you to the list!

We apologise for any names missed out - just write and get your name added.

* Any nicknames can be eliminated - purely there for a "wee bit ae o a jape".
